You will receive two tax bills each year. The interim tax bill is 50% of your previous year's property taxes, as per the Returned Assessment Roll. The second bill is issued upon the approval of the current year's budget for the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand and once the Province of Ontario provides us with a tax rate.

Payment Methods

We have multiple payment options available to help you pay your taxes online. The Interim Tax Billing payment is due on February 28th, 2020. Payments by cheque or debit will be accepted between 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day between February 24th to 28th with the exception of Thursday at the Emergency Service Facility in Roseneath.

Property Assessments

The Township of Alnwick/Haldimand does not determine the property value assessments. Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) administers a uniform, province wide property assessment system. This system determines current values and classifications for all properties in Ontario.

Tax Due Dates

Exact tax due dates change each year but are in the months of February, April, June, and September.

Due to the uncertain time with COVID 19, Council has decided to change the due dates for the final tax billing in 2020.  Final tax bills will be mailed out at the beginning of August, and be due in two installments August 31 and October 30, 2020.  We are hoping that this will provide some relief for those struggling with finances. 

If you are on our monthly pre-authorized payment plan, the payment amount will be recalculated after the July 15th withdrawal, therefore the last four payments (August to November) will have the 2020 increase, as opposed to over 5 months previously.

Payments can be made at any time through internet or telephone banking, cheques dropped in the Township Office drop box at the front door, or they can be mailed.  Payments will be applied to your account and may make these later payments more manageable.

Where are my taxes going in 2019?

The property taxes you pay are split between the Township, the County of Northumberland and Education. The Township keeps 44%, the County receives 40% and education will receive 16%.
