Bale Wrap and Boat Wrap Recycling

Agricultural Bale Wrap and Marine Boat Wrap have long been problematic materials for recycling, due
to the differing materials used in the manufacture of these products, as well as the
quality/cleanliness of the materials themselves, after they have been used.

With that said, Northumberland County does accept some types of these materials, provided that they
meet certain requirements.

The following materials can be brought to our Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Grafton to be
recycled. A tipping fee of $130/tonne applies to these materials.

• Bale Wrap that is white on one side and black on the other (silage wrap) is accepted,
provided that it is free of excessive dirt, mud and plant materials.
• Boat Wrap that is 100% Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), with no strings or ropes
attached is accepted.

Please note that pure white Bale Wrap in not accepted at our MRF for recycling. This type of Bale
Wrap material should be disposed of as garbage.

Please follow these tips before delivering:

• Bale Wrap must be clean. Bale Wrap that has excessive dirt, mud and / or plant material
will not be accepted.
• Boat Wrap must be free of all strings, ropes, grommets etc.
• Material should be folded down into bales measuring not more than 1.3m x 1.3m x 0.5m (4’
x 4’ x 1.5’). Bales exceeding these dimensions cannot be accepted.

The County does not collect Bale Wrap or Boat Wrap as part of its roadside waste collection
