town crier walkingLiam Cragg named as Town Crier for the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, appointed by Council in December 2016, to add pageantry of Canada 150 celebrations.

The role of a Town Crier today is mostly ceremonial, but in the past it was a way for public announcements to be made. Did you know that if anyone attempts to deter a crier from delivering their message they could be charged with treason?

Since being appointed, Liam has competed in two Provincial Town Crying competitions, placing 5th in 2018 and 4th in 2019. Liam plans on competing in the North American championships in 2020 and the World Competition in 2021.

A message from the Town Crier

Hello Fine Citizens of Our Township.

July 13, 2020 has been marked as International Town Crier's Day, first designated by Chase's Book of Days in 1997

To celebrate this day (as your Town Crier) I will be narrating the Walking Tour of Historic Grafton and will recite the Grafton Declaration.

The tour will start at Town Hall in Grafton at 9:00am and should take just over an hour.

If you are planning to attend I ask that you consider wearing a mask, as physical distancing may not be possible at some locations.

There will be a number of pamphlets available to hand out.

Come learn about the historic Hamlet of Grafton.
