Town Crier

Liam Cragg was named as Town Crier for the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, appointed by Council in December 2016 to add pageantry of Canada 150 celebrations.

The role of a Town Crier today is mostly ceremonial, but in the past it was a way for public announcements to be made. Did you know that if anyone attempts to deter a crier from delivering their message they could be charged with treason?

Since being appointed, Liam has competed in several Town Crier competitions, receiving honours at both the local and provincial levels.
