Township of Alnwick/Haldimand Council Meeting Update Newsletter - August 2025

July 15, 2025 – Public Planning Meeting:

·       Council listened to public comments regarding the subdivision application for Con A. Pt Lt 21 in the Hamlet of Grafton. The County of Northumberland was present to answer questions.

July 15, 2025 – Committee of the Whole Meeting:

·       Council received a report from the Chief Building Official outlining an increase in building permits issued in Q2 of 2025. This highlights an increase in compliance for construction activity throughout the township. 

·       Council received a report from the Clerk regarding the 2024-2026 Strategic plan, providing a high-level overview of achievements and progress during 2025. The report highlighted statistics including the 201 projects staff identified that support the implementation of the Strategic Plan, of those projects 49% have been completed and 45% are in-process.

July 22, 2025 – Municipal Planning Meeting:

·       Council approved a zoning by-law amendment for the parcel of land at 629 Dudley Road. It was noted that a holding symbol will be placed in the area where two identified archaeological sites have been determined and will be registered.

·       Applicable by-laws were passed at the Regular Council meeting as amended, noting the archaeologist's comments from the findings.

July 22, 2025 – Regular Council Meeting:

·       Zoning By-law amendment application for 1481 County Road 23 was withdrawn by the applicant and not considered by Council.

·       Council enacted By-law No. 57-2025 to amend the 2025 Fees and Charges By-law to update fees for recreation and facilities. 

·       By-law No. 61-2025 was enacted in order to execute a Development Agreement with Bolduc, Knox, Bolduc & Bolduc.

·       By-law No. 63-2025 was enacted to assume lands into the municipal road system for year-round maintenance. Parts 3 and 4 (forced road) and Parts 5 and 6 (gas marker and telephone pedestal) from Knollcrest Swine Ltd will be transferred to the Township.

·       A notice of motion was introduced from Councillor Mike Ainsworth regarding the reconsideration of denied severance and building applications. This will be considered at the Committee of the Whole meeting on September 16, 2025.
